Larry D. Thomas, 2008 Texas Poet Laureate and member of the Texas Institute of Letters, retired from his management position in the adult criminal justice system in 1998. Among the awards and prizes he has received for his poetry are Texas Review Poetry Prizes (2004 and 2001), the 2004 Violet Crown Award, 2003 Western Heritage Award, three Pushcart Prize nominations, and a Poets’ Prize nomination (West Chester University).
